Urkraft: Eternal cosmic slaughter
12/06/04 || Lord K Philipson
It seems like there’s no fucken end to all things Danish. Either the
bands in that country loves the fuck out of me, or it’s just a
co-incidence that I get swamped with stuff from that place. I told you
last time around, when I reviewed Danish Hatesphere, that there’s been
alot of Denmark lately at the site. I didn’t mind then and I still don’t
mind.
Denmark has for some reason really stepped up in the metal-world, and I
applaud it. I always liked the bands from Denmark; Invocator,
Panzerchrist and Hatesphere, among others, all give me good vibes. Here I
have another bunch of fucktards that easily places themselves on the
same good-fucken-metal list that I just created. The aren’t exactly at
the top of this list, but they are on there, somewhere, together with
all the little Nightwish-trolls that keep expressing their undying and
colorful love to me.
Magic ears, fuck me sideways, that’s so stupid.
Back to Urkraft then. Most of you fuckers wouldn’t have a clue what this name means, unless you are from Scandinavia that is. Well, it’s a Danish expression that means somehting along the lines of “primordial or primitive force”. I can live with that. What about these fuckers creation then? Can they live up to their name music-wise? Nope. It’s not that strong a force, but it’s damn well-played and kind of “hitty” thrash/metal. Some parts reminds me of In Flames and some parts reminds me of fellow countrymen Hatesphere (that could have been the other way around as well if I heard Urkraft before Hatesphere, but that’s beside the point ). These chefs threw some melody into the stew, and with good results. I’d definitely say that these penises are a tad bit more melodic that then just mentioned Hatesphere. Why do I compare them to Hatesphere all them time? Becoz I can and they are both from Denmark, that’s why. They are not too far from each other musically, but the Haters are definitely more aggressive. There’s nothing lacking in the aggressive department here though. We have double bass and ass-kicking riffing all over the place on this one, lemme just make that clear.
Beside In Flames, some of the stuff gives me 2 Ton Predator vibes as well as some bits The Haunted, which means we are talking heavy and fast-at-times fucken shit, played with passion and conviction. How’s that for pluggng 2 Ton? I know, I just fucken rule. And you know I speak the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the fucken truth. The production is excellent and while checking up on the band, I can see they recorded it in the Antfarm Studio down in Denmark. Technician Tue Madsen might be getting huge in the future, he’s that good with getting sound for bands. I have to bring up one thing that makes this band different compared to the ones last mentioned. Urkraft uses keyboards. I like it. It’s not taking over the place, but it adds a nice touch to the heavy material and using keyboards in this kind of music isn’t that fucken common you know. Good move. All we need now are some female vocals and me writing the riffs and we are all set for a supurb next album.
That was a joke.
Urkraft do all fine without my input. They all know how to fucken use those instruments. There’s no bullshit or fuck-up’s in here. I don’t know if these fuckers know that I’m the biggest fan of guitar overtones, but they sure know how to use those to impress me. Good fucken work boys.
I have a small problem though… This kind of music isn’t anything that would have me wearing magic ears 24/7, no matter how well-played it is. But the quality is undeniable, that’s for sure. Just like with Hatesphere. I just have to point out that I like Bredahl’s vocals a bit more than what this guy spits forth, but that’s just a matter of taste you know.
This is solid fucken metal people, if yer metal heart ( I so fucken rule, I managed to make a cheesy Accept-reference. Bow down before me! ) has some place left, check these fuckers out.
7/10 – If it wasn’t for the keyboards we would probably have ended up with a 6 and a half as the score, but they sure deserve a 7.
